Chamber Music

Comprising four Taiwanese-Canadian musicians, violinists Stan Chen and Nelly Chen, violist Judy Hung, and cellist Wan-Ting Huang, the Montreal Formosa String Quartet performs a versatile crossover repertoire, ranging from classical standards to Beatles songs, traditional folk melodies, and animation music by Joe Hisaishi.

Violinist Stan Chen holds a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and has performed with Symphony Nova Scotia. He has also served as concertmaster of the National Orchestral Institute Orchestra and the Acadia String Ensemble.

Violinist Nelly Chen holds a Master of Music from the Université de Montréal. A former concertmaster of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, she has performed with Symphony Nova Scotia and the Orchestre de la Francophonie.

Violist and violinist Dr. Judy Hung is an internationally active performer specializing in Historically Informed Performance. She has released three solo albums performed on period instruments: Essence Baroque, Essence Romantique, and Essence Classique. She is the artistic director of OSJVS and Les Concerts Valois.

Cellist Wan-Ting Huang holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Oregon. She has performed internationally, including with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and the Oregon Mozart Players, and is committed to nurturing each student’s unique musical voice.

Founded in 2022, the Montreal Formosa String Quartet has performed at Ottawa’s Taiwan Night (2022, 2023) and at Les Concerts Valois (2026), and is now expanding its performing and touring projects.
