Violinist and pianist Judy Hung and cellist Dmitry Babich began collaborating while working as colleagues at the McGill Conservatory of Music from 2010 to 2012. During that time, they performed together in faculty and guest concerts at major McGill University venues including Pollack Concert Hall, Tanna Schulich Hall, and Redpath Hall, as well as in concert series in Montreal and Ottawa such as the Lakeshore Chamber Concert Series and DOMS. Their work together is grounded in chamber music collaboration.
Dmitry Babich graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, where he studied with Mariya Chaikovskaya, a former student of Mstislav Rostropovich. He received the Special Prize at the 3rd International Shostakovich String Quartet Competition. He has appeared as a soloist and orchestral musician with ensembles including the Lviv Philharmonic, the American Youth Orchestra, and the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra, and toured internationally as principal cellist of the Lviv Chamber Orchestra.
Based in Montreal since 2010, Dmitry completed his master’s degree at the Université de Montréal in 2013 under the guidance of Yuli Turovsky. His work includes chamber music, early music, contemporary repertoire, and film projects. He taught cello at the McGill Conservatory from 2011 to 2022 and currently teaches at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf and the Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec.
